5 Reasons a Pediatric Vaccination Is Important

pediatric vaccination Houston, TX

If you pay attention to the news, then you have probably seen a lot of stories recently about pediatric vaccination for children. While most parents agree that vaccination is important, some do not.

Unfortunately, not having the proper shots puts children’s health at risk. It also creates a major issue for them attending school.

Why pediatric vaccination?

Learning the facts about pediatric vaccination can show parents that rather than fearing them, they accomplish a lot of good things.

1. Saving lives

The most important thing for parents to remember is that pediatric vaccination can save their child’s life. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released some very interesting findings. For one thing, vaccinated people born in the United States from 1994 to 2013 experienced roughly 322 million fewer illnesses. Vaccinations also decreased the number of hospitalizations by 21 million. Even more impacting, vaccinations cut the number of deaths by more than 730,000.

However, there is another important reason for pediatric vaccination. Dating back to the early 1900s, medications have dramatically reduced the number of people developing certain diseases. Two examples include mumps and measles. Compared to widespread illness at one time, seldom do people come down with either one of these today.

2. Safe and effective

Beyond the most critical reason for saving lives, pediatric vaccination is both safe and effective. Parents need to understand that doctors do not just inject anything in their child. Instead, the vaccines given today have a tremendous amount of research behind them.

Yes, vaccines do cause slight pain, swelling and redness. But as for any serious side effects, these are extremely rare.

3. Enhanced protection

Parents, grandparents and legal guardians love their children. Because of that, they want to do everything they can to protect them. One way to accomplish that is by preventing them from becoming seriously ill.

Some children are too young to have a pediatrician vaccinate them. But for those old enough, vaccinations strengthen their immune systems. That makes it easier for young bodies to fight off potentially life-threatening illnesses.

Simply put, by vaccinating children, their bodies have a better chance of warding off illness and disease. At the same time, pediatric vaccination prevents the spread of disease to others. Especially after starting school, kids pass all kinds of germs and bacteria back and forth. Having children vaccinated protects them, their friends, family members and others they come into contact with.

4. Cost savings

There is also a cost-saving factor to consider. Even with health care insurance, taking a child to the doctor and filling prescriptions becomes expensive. Especially for kids with serious illnesses like leukemia, the cost of care multiplies. Then there are trips to therapists, hospital stays, laboratory testing and more.

Parents are always going to make trips to the doctor. But with pediatric vaccination, they can reduce the frequency. The money saved by having just one child vaccinated by a pediatrician is worth it. However, parents with several children can save an inestimable amount of money.

5. School attendance

In many states, children cannot attend public school unless vaccinated. Without the necessary shots, parents would have to homeschool. Although this varies on a state-by-state basis, it is quickly becoming the norm throughout the United States.

Protect the ones you love

As a responsible parent, you should talk to your pediatrician about having your child vaccinated. Even pediatric vaccination can make a significant difference long-term.
